Exploring the power of music education

The benefits of music education seem endless.

Our 2020 Sound Investment research and report on the current state of music education in Australia underscored the pivotal role of music education, particularly in enhancing cognitive and learning development among children.

From tangible benefits like fostering improved attitudes, behaviors, and teamwork skills, to cognitive enhancement such as heightened aural perception (vital for language and literacy proficiency), and even broader impacts on healthy development such as increased academic confidence and self-esteem, the rewards are profound.

The importance isn't lost on the numerous stakeholders and partners who joined us for the official launch of Music Education: Right from the Start at The White House in Melbourne’s St Kilda in September 2022.

Drawing from their diverse backgrounds as educators, researchers, advocates, philanthropists, musicians, policymakers, and more, some of these individuals shared their firsthand experiences with the transformative power of music – underscoring the collective commitment to addressing Australia’s inequity in access to learning and uneven educational outcomes and support for our mission to ensure all Australian primary school students receive a quality, sequential and ongoing music education.
